How Simon
Helberg Almost
Missed Out On The
Big Bang Theory
By JASON CONNOLLY
Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) is one of the four geeky Caltech employees who make up the main male cast of CBS's "The Big Bang Theory." Although Howard shares plenty of nerdy tendencies with his coworkers, his extremely inflated ego sets him apart from the rest of the cast, and fans were surprised when Helberg revealed that he had initially declined the role.
When Big Bang came around, Helberg was already working on two other shows, which can make it understandable that he didn’t want to audition. The actor explained, "I was convinced by my agent to go in for 'The Big Bang Theory,' and it was ... the first thing I'd ever been a part of that actually aired!"
Although it's unclear exactly which series Helberg is referring to, at the time he was starring in Aaron Sorkin's "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" as well as "Derek and Simon," and neither ended up making it to a second season. To this day, Howard Wolowitz remains the most well-known character in Helberg's career.
