It came as a surprise to many when director Todd Phillips announced there would be a sequel to 2019's "Joker." Even more surprising, though, is the buzz from The Hollywood Reporter that indicates Lady Gaga could be joining the film as Dr. Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn.
In fan artwork posted to Instagram, an artist going by the username ‘bosslogic’ posted an animated rendering of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. In the image, Gaga is holding a giant hammer we've seen the character employ before, wearing a bloodied shirt, fishnets, and munching on what appears to be a lollipop.
Fans might be wondering if Gaga is the new Harley Quinn but even though Margot Robbie has suggested she needs a break from the character, she has also revealed that she is ready for more Quinn. Gaga would not be a full replacement for Robbie and would simply represent another version of Quinn from DC's ever-expanding multiverse.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel to "Joker" could end up being a musical, and if that’s the case it would certainly be an original way to follow up the first movie. Whether "Joker: Folie à deux" does end up being a full-blown musical, Gaga's inclusion seems like a perfect fit.
