Moon Knight's Ammit Explained

By PAULI POISUO

THIS STORY CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR "Moon Knight" Episode 1.

SPOILER WARNING!

Moon Knight, played by Oscar Isaac, is closely associated with the moon god Khonshu. It appears, however, that Moon Knight's antagonist, Arthur Harrow, also has some deity power in his corner, as shown by his scale tattoo.

Harrow, played by Ethan Hawke, is affiliated with another Egyptian goddess named Ammit, a crocodile-headed judgment entity who eats the souls deemed unworthy by her scales. In Marvel’s comic books, Ammit is also known as Ammut, who is often seen with the death god Anubis.

Harrow is looking for a scarab that is instrumental in his plans to bring Ammit’s judgment to humanity. In the series, the deity manifests as psychiatrist Dr. Emmet, who runs the hospital Marc Spector is locked in.
