The Captain America Scene In Endgame That Has MCU Fans Confused

By JACOB WILLEFORD

In “Avengers: Endgame,” Steve Rogers completes his long and tough journey as Captain America by passing the mantle to Sam Wilson. MCU fans have seen Cap grow through many moral dilemmas, including the scene in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” where Steve lies to his superiors and fights against STRIKE, due to them being HYDRA agents.

In “Endgame,” Cap finds himself in an elevator with the same HYDRA team when the Avengers go back to 2012 to obtain the Mind Stone. Instead of fighting his way out, Cap whispers “Hail HYDRA” into Jasper Sitwell’s ear, and he walks out of the elevator unharmed, while Sitwell and his team look stunned.

Some fans on Reddit say that this scene lacks believability and question how simply saying that phrase can get someone out of danger. Others, however, say that the HYDRA team’s surprise is believable, because no non-HYDRA member would know that phrase, and no one on the team would dare to go against their superiors.
