The Famous
Seinfeld Line An
Audience Member
Made Up
By CAITLIN ALBERS
“Seinfeld” is known for its iconic one-liners, many of which were the brainchild of a talented team of writers. However, this was not the case for one famous "Seinfeld" episode, where an audience member is credited as being solely responsible for one of the funniest one-word lines of the series.
In the episode "The Junior Mint," Jerry can’t remember his girlfriend’s name but discovers that it rhymes with a part of the female body. Once she finds out Jerry has no idea what her name is, she leaves in justified anger, after which Jerry has an epiphany and shouts "Dolores!" out of his apartment window.
Initially, Jerry's girlfriend's name was never going to be spoken aloud, but during filming, an audience member yelled out "Dolores," which got tons of support from the crowd. It's a good thing the "Seinfeld" team was open to crowdsourcing; as one of the show’s writers, Andy Robin, said, "When the audience member shouted it out, and the audience laughed, it was like this is a great exclamation to put on the end.”
