As of September 2022, several Warner Bros. Discovery animated shows and movies have been canceled or removed from HBO Max and other networks, including “Infinity Train,” “Summer Camp Island,” and “The Fungies.” One fan tweeted a question to Jason DeMarco, co-creator of Cartoon Network block Toonami, about the anime adaptation of “Uzumaki.”
“Uzumaki” is one of horror mangaka Ito Junji's most iconic works, and an anime adaptation has long been in gestation; fans are understandably worried that a more niche project that's still in development will soon get the ax from Warner Bros. Luckily, DeMarco tweeted back at the inquiring fan, “Uzumaki is still in production. No news at this point!”
The Adult Swim adaptation of “Uzumaki” has already gone through multiple delays, partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The show has no official release date, and fans will likely have to wait a while to start watching, but at least they can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the long-anticipated show is still in production.
