Despite the title proposing that the next movie will be a continuation of what came before, "Shrek 5" is a reboot that promises to reinvent the wheel. However, no storylines have been released and it seems the creators are keeping the details under lock and key.
Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Antonio Banderas are all slated to return as Shrek, Donkey, and Puss in Boots, respectively. Cameron Diaz retired from acting in 2014, so if Fiona returns, chances are she’ll be portrayed by a different actor.
Originally slated for a 2019 release, the pandemic likely stalled the film's progress, so it's currently unknown how far into production "Shrek 5" actually is. However, the current release date floating around the internet is September 30, 2022, with a home media release possibly landing the following November.
