Why Homelander's Costume On The Boys Makes No Sense

By ANGELA CAMPBELL

Fans of "The Boys" know that Homelander (Anthony Starr) is the main villain, although the public within the show sees him as a superhero. Homelander is supposed to be an American hero who helps everyone and upholds democracy, but he is instead just the opposite.

Like Superman and Captain America, Homelander's costume is primarily red and blue, with symbolism that suggests the U.S. as an influence. However, Homelander himself defies the American ideology of democracy, liberalism, and free expression.

In addition to the patriotic colors, Homelander’s costume is adorned with golden eagles, an ode to fascist iconography throughout history. While Homelander is meant to be an American superhero, his costume should be a hint that he's not what he appears.
