Why ‘Yoda’ Is In A Letter By The Pope From The 14th Century
By TIM LAMMERS
A creature who looks awfully similar to Yoda, who first debuted in 1980 via "The Empire Strikes Back," has been discovered in a letter from the time of Pope Gregory IX.
The curator of the British Library's Medieval Manuscripts blog, Julian Harrison, says that Yoda’s appearance is "actually an illustration to the biblical story of Samson [...]".
The 14th-century manuscript is known as the Smithfield Decretals, and although the green creature is much taller than the Yoda fans know and love, they do have the same ears.
The lookalike is also wearing a flowing gown similar to Yoda's in the "Star Wars" movies, although it is more orange in color opposed to Yoda's tan robe.
Yoda’s twin even has more hair on the top of his head than the character’s sparse strands of hair, and it has webbed hands instead of individual fingers and thumbs.
